6300-003 Suicide Gatekeeper Training
|
This course is worth |
Most adolescents who commit suicide see a healthcare provider sometime during the year before doing so. Very few of these young people receive the psychological help they need. As a nurse or substance abuse counselor, you are in a position to recognize early warning signs and help these young people. You are a gatekeeper.
In this course, we will explore strategies to recognize and respond to suicidal threats and gestures. We will pay special attention to suicide-prevention approaches to utilize when working with adolescent and young adult patients (ages 13-24). After you complete the training, you will be able to:
- Articulate prevalence, risk factors, and protective factors of suicide in a healthcare setting
- Describe common signs of suicide
- Detail communication strategies and steps to complete a suicide screening
- Describe steps to respond to an adolescent or young adult who is contemplating suicide
You will be asked to complete a 10-question assessment at the end of the training. If you receive a score of 70 percent (7 out of 10) or better, you will receive a certificate of completion. If you do not receive a score of 70 percent or better, you will be asked to review this information again and retake the quiz. Certificates of completion can be submitted to your certifying organization or state licensing board.
